Through a child’s eyes:The Fountains of Lima

I grew up in a small town in the state of Santa Catarina,in the south of Brazil. It was kind of far from everything. The closest major cities are around 400Km away from there. There wasn’t really much in town for entertainment and I remember that on summer nights my Dad would take the family to the main square to see the water fountain and eat churros.

At that time I used to think that the fountain in the square was spectacular. It seemed to go really high up in the sky and due to the colorful lights it had,it seemed a bit magical too.

Roughly 25 years have passed since then and I recently went to Lima. My friends at the hostel invited me to take a night tour of the city with a stop at the Circuito de las Aguas. It’s a city park with lots of fountains that are lit up at night with colorful lights and lasers and there’s also music and hologram projections.

I actually thought the idea of the whole thing was a bit too touristy and tacky. I accepted the invitation all the same just because my friends had insisted so much and it would also be an opportunity to see the historical buildings downtown wiht their night lights as well.

When I arrived at the park I realized that my preconceptions,as it usually happens, were wrong. The fountains were amazing! Some of them were interactive and you’d see lots of tourists and Limenos getting wet and jumping around and screaming trying to avoid or find where the next shower was coming from. There was also a tunnel made of water which allowed people to walk through without getting wet and that had a very cool look.

The highlight of the whole experience was the holographic show at the centre of the park. The holograms made scenes of flowers e different dances, most of them traditional Peruvian dances, and they were really incredible. They used lots of laser beams and colors to create different kinds of awesome lighting effects.

I felt like a child again! Of course I had to buy some churros to complete the experience and be totally taken back in time!

I remembered my Dad so much and missed him dearly but at the same time I had a great feeling of contentment when I realized that the words he said to me before I left for this big trip were very true:“Enjoy everything and remember I’ll be seeing the world through your eyes!”

Doubtful Sound

Misterious,dark,misty and Doubtful!

This week’s photo is from Doubtful Sound in New Zealand’s Fiordland. A remote place you can only get to by boat with an organized operator. Even in the rainy weather the views and the whole experience are worth the effort!

Check out the details:the setting is the lovely and quiet surf beach of San Bartolo. The altar is nothing but a very colourful surfboard, the groom is wearing jandals and there’s also a flag of Peru to their left.
